Hornby castle

June 2nd & 3rd  2007

This was our 4th Hornby Castle event, and again it was another fantastic, sunny and hot weekend. Even though the forecast said heavy showers, none appeared.  There was a great turn out of vehicles of all sorts and sizes, Russian, British, American and German , and a few more re-enactors arrived just to show their uniforms and civies. A very loud 18 piece dance band in the Hornby Village Institute on the Saturday night, made for a great evening. We had 2 runs out, each having in excess of 30 vehicles in each, mostly jeeps, but REO's and Dodges, GMC's etc.....  It was a great spectacle winding our way through the small villages and country road, with  Police escort. There was a Sunday battle re-enactment up the right hand side of the castle hill,  so was very close to the public, only feet away from them, and very loud!

Just getting underway, the Saturday convoy nearly every jeep took part, and the occasional Land Rover, Hornby Castle in the background.  Never took the time to climb to the top this year, again entry to the top was in with the small entry fee...

A lovely sunny run out. We all stopped on a country road for photos. It did look good, a long line of jeeps, Dodges, Jimmys etc.   And the occasional motorcycle outrider.

The twins newest barn find, this lovely, running White Half Track. Don't know if it is an M2 or M3, did not get time to ask. Some body will tell me.  It will be nice to see next year after the usual meticulous restoration from the boys.

Paul turned out in his restored Kettenkrad,  just a pity it is not road legal, but the price of the track links, not practical to take it on road for any distance......

Tony Martin and friends arrived in this Spartan APC.  We just don't ask how he acquired this. But he did drive it the 15 miles to the castle field, and back.  Just don't ask him about the fuel bill.

Simons Dodge WC ...

with the lovely restored GMC, just before the road run.

Again, jeeps came in all sorts of sizes and colours. A genuine French Fire Brigade Jeep no less. And a Royal Canadian Air Force Blue Jeep.

The big band during the Saturday night, but out a loud and varied list of tunes. The dance floor always full, Denise and myself, even had a few jives.

The battle re-enactment in full swing.  Tim, The one dead on the ground, was suffering from a bad head cold all weekend, so was in no mood to go running up a hill, so decided to just lie down and die, His son, James,  tries to get some plasma into him, but all he wanted was a nice cup of tea. Not very American.....

Nearing the top, and the German gun emplacement,  and the Frenchman eventually gets hit. Only to rise again, and save the day.. The medic had her hands full that day !.
