Hornby Castle Military Weekend
May 31st - 1st June 2008
This was our 5th Hornby Castle event, it was another very sunny and hot Saturday, but unfortunately, the heavens opened on Sunday morning, and we were drenched. Again, there was a terrific turn out of vehicles of all sorts and sizes, Russian, British, American and German, WW2 to modern day. More and more re-enactors and living history displays this year, both uniforms and civies. We had a special appearance from the American Civil War Society, with about 20 men and women in beautiful period costumes. They lived the life all weekend, and were brilliant. They had a re-enactment skirmish on Saturday and Sunday, (in the rain), where they had a line of 18 muskets fire in unison, great. Both field were well used, don't think we can get any more in, but will try to next year....
Friday evening, Frank and Angela from the Pegasus Collection, but on a huge BBQ for all invited, her pate and sauce, and pudding will be talked about for years to come, a big thank you from everybody there! There was a Quiz in the beer tent, won by Boyan Holmes's team, well done to them.
We had runs out on Saturday and Sunday, each having in excess of 35 vehicles in each, mostly jeeps, but Austin's, Harley, Dodges, GMC's etc..... It was a great spectacle winding our way through the small villages and country road, with Police escort. A good display of classic cars from the "Lakeland Historic Car Club".
A new band for us, the "Starlight Swing Orchestra", 14 piece dance band in the Hornby Village Institute on the Saturday night, made for a great evening. from 8pm till midnight.
Sunday was very wet from start to finish, with packing up at 4pm, putting large canvas tents away very wet, and very heavy, but the public response on the day was still very good. Anyway, to the pictures.....

The American Civil War Society, put on a great show, both in their camp and in the skirmish. 17 gun salute !!!

Half way round the Saturday run out, only half the convoy shown., over 30 vehicles in total.

My camp for the weekend, the jeep goes under the shelter at night, Sunday , with the rain, it stayed there most of the day. Paul Higgins resting his broken leg.

A few interesting machines, this 6 wheeler even came on the convoy road run.
Tony Martin and friends arrived in this Spartan again. He did drive it the 15 miles to the castle field, and back. Just don't ask him about the fuel bill.

Young James taking a well earned rest from the riggers of exhibiting.

The Russian contingent, with 4 GAZ's. If any of you Russians read this, let me know what they all were....

Same for these trucks, are they a Mac and a GMC of sorts. please let me know.

And lastly, the "Starlight Swing Orchestra" from Chorley, did a great job entertaining us all evening, just sorry the audience thinned out towards midnight. But the music was well liked.
