New Year run

Saturday 10th January 2009

My Sister in-law, Liz Russell, organized this one, on a very frosty, very cold Saturday morning. We arranged to meet at the Preston Grasshoppers Rugby Ground car park at 11:00am for a 11:30am off. It was cold, but dry. Nearly all the jeeps were hooded up, except for a few brave souls, which I think was because they didn't have them, if they did, they would have been on!!!  !8 vehicles, mostly Jeeps, arrived, including a Gaz full of very very cold looking young lads in East German uniforms (I think), and a beautiful old Rolls Royce. The run, this part organized by Dave Salisbury, took us through some lovely villages for about 30minutes, to the Stags Head at Goosnargh near Preston. Apart from the odd minor break down, all was well. The Stags Head was warm and friendly, and the meals arrived piping hot. I don't know how many turned up in the end, but was about 35. The car park looked great, Roops's Black and White Dodge standing out in a sea of green Jeeps. We were back on the road by 2:30pm to escape the dark nights on Jeep lights...  A good day was had by all, great to get the Jeep back on the road again.  I have just invested in a little electric heater for the Jeep, for the next very cold, wintery day !! Many thanks to Liz and Dave for their organization of the meal and run.

Cold and frosty start at Preston Grasshoppers car park, Yes, that is Ice in the car park. Hardy souls with only the hood up, no sides on....

And the Beautiful Rolls Royce. I am sure somebody will tell me what model !!??

You can tell it is cold by the amount of Flying jackets, big hats, scarves and gloves that came out !

On our way to the Stags Head, down  some lovely lanes and through sleepy villages.

The car park at the Stags Head soon filled up with all manner of Jeeps, and very cold looking drivers and passengers.

The bar was soon in use, with coffees and shorts. Anything to put the warmth back into the old bones.

Helen and Liz, waiting patiently for their well earned lunch. (Even though Helen was in a modern day Land Rover. With Good Reason !)
