Windermere Air show 2009

July 25th - 26th July 2009

Simon Gregg was our organiser on this one, and well done organising the weather Simon on the Saturday !  Don't know what went wrong on the Sunday morning, we got drenched, but all OK in the end.

Saturday was a glorious day, hot and sunny all day. The crowds came in there thousands, most of which were clambering over the jeeps. It was then that the inevitable happened. While parked on the slope, one group of young delinquents, decided it would be fun to get the my jeep into neutral, and let the handbrake off, and run down the hill towards the picnicking public. Luckily, I was standing right by them, and they only rolled a couple of feet, but what a shock. That was it, severely reprimanded and told to go away in the best possible terms, no child went on the vehicles after that. Apart from that, it was a great day, with a great selection of jeeps,  and Simon's Dodge.  The highlight would have to be the Vulcan bomber display. It came in low over the lake, then rolled into a vertical climb away, with a huge roar from the 4 engines, it was terrific. We also had displays from the Spitfire, Hurricane, C47 Dakota, and many other aircraft all afternoon.  There were so many people, we could not exit the site till late in the afternoon.

A lot of public interest in all the vehicles and displays.

Jonathan, Simon and Steve, relax in the sun.

Doggy Pillow !!!

The kids joined in as well for the local press photographer. Still waiting for the pictures !

This was just prior to the handbrake incident, after which, the .30 Cal  gun was covered, and no kids allowed on....  I now have 2 blocks of wood to chock the wheels with.

The Avro Vulcan bomber, did a fantastic show, low fly pasts, vertical turns, bomb bay open runs, it was an incredible sight to see this great plane flying once again. I will put a link to some YouTube links below for it...

Sunday was pouring down, soaked before we started, Graham and myself turned up with Jeeps, nobody else, not even the public. These was a big concern that the vehicles would rip up the putting green.....  The weather eventually cleared at lunchtime, and brought the crowds out. We had a fantastic display of aircraft on the Sunday, especially  of the Chinook helicopter, vertical stall turns with incredible control, then cam into land, very close to the crowd. Then a very quick take off indeed, straight up. But it was good to get home and dry everything out.

And evidently the main event organisers have donated £300 to Simon, who is going to give the money to Elaine and John for the Help for Heroes campaign. Many many thanks to them....

Well done Simon, a good 2 days....

The Burneside Brass Band played James Bond music all morning, in the pouring rain, hardly anybody came to listen, but I made a token effort. Well done lads...

The Chinook helicopter coming in to land, right by the crowd. What a down draft from the twin rotors !!!  Certainly helped to dry us all out

Two YouTube videos of the Air Show. First is just of the Vulcan, play it loud !!!,  second is a more general video of most of the aircraft on Saturday. Dont know who did them, but thank you to them none the less.
